What is a notary public?

A notary public is a person licensed or commissioned by a state government. Our notary services in Minneapolis provide certified notarization for individuals and businesses throughout Minnesota.

What does a notary do?

A notary public verifies your identity and witnesses your signature on important documents. The most common function of a notary public is to prevent fraud. As an experienced notary in Minneapolis, we handle various document types with professionalism and care.

These documents include:

  • Estates
  • Deeds
  • Powers of attorney
  • Affidavits
  • Licenses
  • Contracts
  • Loan documents
  • Trusts

What does it mean to have an application notarized?

You present your government-issued photo identification to the notary. The notary verifies your identification and watches you sign and date the application. Then, the notary marks the application with a stamp (or a “seal”) and signs the application. The notary’s signature and stamp show that your signature matches your photo ID, and that you signed the application willingly. A notarized application helps vital records offices know that your signature is valid. Our notary services in Minnesota ensure your documents are properly authenticated.

Notaries are not responsible for the accuracy of the information you put on your application.

Preparing for your notary appointment

Getting your documents notarized the first time correctly saves you time and hassle. Here’s what you need to know before your appointment to ensure a smooth, efficient notarization process.

Call ahead to confirm availability

To ensure your appointment runs smoothly and your documents are properly notarized, we recommend calling to confirm notary availability before you arrive. This helps prevent any delays, especially during peak times or on Fridays when our hours are shorter.

Bring your complete document package

Bring all pages of the document(s) being signed, not just signature pages. This allows our notary to properly review what you’re signing and confirm the notarization requirements. In most cases, our team can answer questions about specific document requirements when you call to schedule your appointment.

Ensure all signers are present with a valid ID

Make sure every person who needs to sign the document is present with acceptable state-issued photo identification. This includes any required witnesses, as some documents need witness signatures in addition to notarization.

What to Expect:

  • We suggest you don’t sign or date the document (some documents must be signed and dated in the presence of a Notary)
  • Make sure you have all the pages of the document(s) being signed, not just the signature page
  • Make sure all document signers have state-acceptable ID
  • When you (as well as any additional document signers and required witnesses) arrive at your appointment, the Notary will review your document(s) to determine the notarization requirements and whether we are able to complete the notarization.
